Two accomplished Victorian emergency leaders have been recognised for their contributions to the improvement of bushfire management at this year's Australia Day Honours.
The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) has taken a major step to prevent the extinction of the threatened Southern Shepherd's Purse (Ballantinia antipoda) by growing the plant in Tallarook State Forest near Broadford, 80 kilometres away from the only known wild population in the world.
