Boards and governance
Welcome to On Board.
On Board is the central place for agencies in the Department of Environment and Primary Industries (DEPI) portfolio to access governance information and resources that are tailored to meet their needs.
The DEPI portfolio includes more than 160 large public entities (e.g. boards, committees, councils) and over 1,200 smaller committees of management of crown land reserves, together with a range of advisory and consultative bodies. Depending on the functions set out in their establishing Act or terms of reference, DEPI agencies are responsible for managing, regulating and/or advising the Victorian government in relation to water, land and other natural resources, food safety, industry development, animal welfare and biosecurity.
DEPI agencies are accountable to the Victorian Parliament through the responsible minister. DEPI oversees and supports portfolio agencies on behalf of the minister.
To assist board members, CEOs and staff of DEPI agencies, On Board provides information about:
Basic requirements of good governance
Information for DEPI agency board members on governance frameworks and standards of conduct.
Governance guides and resources
The DEPI good guide to governance - board members is key reading for all current prospective board members.
When a board vacancy exists members of the public are encouraged to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) and undergo the selection process.
