The Victorian coastline is a dynamic environment constantly affected by waves, wind, seasonal sand movement and storms. The use and development of our beaches and foreshores has changed significantly as more people live and visit our coast.
With now over 1000 protective structures such as seawalls and groynes and approximately 800beaches, DEPI have developed three key programs to ensure our beaches and foreshores are healthy, safe and provide a great coastal experience.
Our programs are delivered using a thorough risk assessment, in consultation with our key stakeholders and in line with the principles of the Victorian Coastal Strategy. These programs also allow DEPI and our coastal land managers to respond quickly when events such as storms and other extreme weather conditions impact our coastline.
