Non-urban water metering
Victoria is working with other state governments to improve national water resource management as part of the National Water Initiative.
Non-urban water metering is an important tool for managing Victoria's water entitlements. It helps ensure fair and equitable sharing of water resources, and provides vital information for planning and allocation decisions.
The Department of Environment and Primary Industries has worked with the rural water corporations with non-urban customers, to put together a non-urban water metering policy.
Key features of the policy include:
- Confirmation of Victoria's support for the National Framework for Non-Urban Water Metering. For more information visit the Australian Government Department of the Environment website.
- Clarification of existing obligations as included in the Victorian State Implementation Plan (2010)
- Outline of the use of non-urban water metering as a resource management tool in the context of Victoria's water entitlement framework
- Guidance on when and how exemptions from metering can be established
